Austin, TEXAS (November 10, 2021)November is National Diabetes Awareness month. To support the cause and to raise funds benefiting JDRF, Q2 hosted its annual Dodgeball tournament at Q2 Stadium for the first time yesterday.

Twenty-six teams signed up to play in the fundraising tournament. Teams consisted of Q2 employees, sponsors such as Austin FC and JLL, and others from the Austin community. Q2 employees also participated by volunteering and staffing the event.

In order to enter the tournament, teams must raise funds to donate toward JDRF’s mission of funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. These spirited teams consisted of 600 players in total. Each team rallied together to create matching, themed uniforms and quirky team names such as Game of Throwes, Untouchaballs, and Don’t Stop Ballieving.

“At Q2, our mission is centered on strengthening communities,” said Kim Rutledge, Q2’s executive vice president, people. “We choose to invest in organizations whose impacts align closely with Q2’s vision and values, which is why we are proud to support JDRF, an organization dedicated to research and advocacy, but most importantly, supporting families in our communities. Each year, we look forward to the opportunity to come together, have some fun, and raise money for a cause that directly impacts the lives of many Q2 team members and their families.”

The tournament consists of teams competing in knockout style rounds until a winner emerges. The winner is crowned at the end of the day after 60 games are played. This year, RSM claimed the first place title and trophy. In total, more than $81,000 were raised from the event to benefit JDRF.

Q2 has hosted the Dodgeball tournament for four years. In total, $280,000 has been raised for JDRF over those four years. These funds directly impact T1D research and JDRF’s mission to treat, prevent and ultimately cure T1D.

“JDRF Austin is truly grateful for the long-standing support from Q2 and its partners,” said Mike Brin, Austin marketing director for JDRF.  “The Q2 Dodgeball Tournament is an incredible example of engaging employees and the corporate community in a unique and creative way that is fun for all involved.  JDRF’s partnership with Q2 continues to make a tremendous impact on the lives of so many of our community members living with diabetes and helps drive our mission to fund research to cure, prevent, and treat T1D.”

Additionally, Q2’s 2021-established partnership with Austin FC gave a unique and fun new venue for hosting the event at Q2 Stadium.
